How to Decide Which Version of StarfishETL is Right for You

Everyone loves options, right? As you prepare for your data project, you may notice StarfishETL offers several options for moving your data. How do you know which version of the platform is right for what you need, though? The first thing you must consider is what you’re using StarfishETL for: integration, migration, data clean up, process automation, or other uses. Here are some descriptions and guidelines to help you choose the best StarfishETL instance for your next project.

StarfishETL for Integration

If you’re using StarfishETL for integration, you have two options: Cloud Designer or on-premises. Read below to learn about each.

Cloud Designer: As the name suggests, the StarfishETL Cloud Designer is hosted in the Cloud. This version of the platform is ideal for those who have Cloud CRM platforms and several custom fields/functions to incorporate. If you’re integrating your CRM with an on-premises system, you can use the Ray function to connect that system through your firewall. The Ray makes bridging on-premises and Cloud software so much easier! If at least one of your systems is in the Cloud, you can use the Cloud Designer with Ray for your integration project.

Ideal Cloud Designer Candidate:

  • User of Cloud or on-premises origin and destination
  • Looking for ability to personalize and manage integration
  • Need to connect Cloud with on-premises software
  • Want to build custom fields and functions
  • Want full control over project scheduling
  • Do not want to host StarfishETL on your own hardware
  • Do not want to manage upgrades of StarfishETL

On-Premises: The on-premises version of StarfishETL is meant for users looking to connect two on-premises solutions together. Unlike the Cloud Designer, StarfishETL on-premises must be installed and hosted locally.

Ideal On-Premises Integration Candidate:

  • Working with two on-premises solutions
  • Has necessary server requirements for on-premises installation
  • Has the technical expertise to manage the StarfishETL environment and upgrades or has purchased an on-premises support agreement

StarfishETL for Migration

Whether you’re looking to do a basic migration or one with a little more personalization, StarfishETL has options for you. Read below to learn about the different ways to migrate with StarfishETL.

CRM Migration Wizard
The CRM Migration Wizard is the quick and effortless way to migrate your old Cloud CRM to your new Cloud CRM — and you don’t have to be an IT expert to do it! StarfishETL built this straightforward platform to move your business data in eight steps and connect to your CRMS using basic system information.

Choose your price point by selecting or deselecting fields from the standard map. The less fields you map, the less money you spend. That makes the Wizard a great, low cost option for people who want to move basic fields and only need select information. The Migration Wizard allows the user to add custom fields, too, and it comes pre-loaded with the following popular CRM migrations:

Migrating From (Origin)
 Act!
Infor CRM
NetSuite
Sage CRM
Salesforce
 SugarCRM
Microsoft Dynamics CRM
Migrating To (Destination)
 Act!
bpm’online
NetSuite
Salesforce
SugarCRM
Microsoft Dynamics CRM

Ideal CRM Migration Wizard Candidate:

  • Doing a Cloud-to-Cloud CRM migration
  • Wants the ability to choose fields to migrate to control costs
  • Wants a fast, easy way to migrate core data
  • Has CRMs that allow API access
  • Has custom fields pre-configured in his or her new system
  • Has cleared his or her database of duplicate or outdated information
  • Using CRM systems that match the ones listed above for origin and destination connectors

Don’t see your Origin and Destination in the list? Stay tuned! We’re adding new maps to the Wizard all the time.

Cloud Designer

Just as the Cloud Designer can be used to build personalized CRM integrations, it also can be used to personalize your CRM migration. Cloud Designer users take their migration to the next level by capturing full control and configurability of their project. The Cloud Designer allows you to customize your map, define your custom fields and functions to your individual specifications, and tailor your scheduling and monitoring to your needs.

Ideal Cloud Designer Candidate:

  • Wants a more hands-on migration experience
  • Needs to build specific mapping instructions or add special fields
  • Has a CRM that is not compatible with the Wizard
  • Migrating from a CRM that is either on-premises or in the Cloud

On-Premises: The on-premises version of StarfishETL is meant for users looking to migrate from one hosted CRM to another. The platform must be installed and hosted locally.

Ideal On-Premises Migration Candidate:

  • Working with two on-premises CRM solutions where the Starfish Ray is not an option
  • Has necessary server requirements for on-premises installation
  • Has the technical expertise to manage the StarfishETL environment and upgrades or has purchased an on-premises support agreement
